Continuing Education

We will pay for you to continue pursuing your degree. There is a 2% raise for a associate degree, and 4% for a bachelor degree.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen

High school graduate or equivalent

At least 19.5 years of age

Valid driver’s license

No felonies or DUIs

Pass the physical fitness test

Moral character

Good communications skills

Creative problem solving skills

Passion for helping others

Pass background investigation

Pass polygraph

Process

We want you to be challenged, but we also want to make the process as smooth as possible. We’re here to assist you in any way we can.

Step 1 – Get To Know A Recruiting Officer
Our recruiters most important responsibility is to help guide you through the process. They’ll give you insights and advice, and answer any questions you might have.

Step 2 – Pass the Four-Phase Hiring Process
Phase 1 – Written Exam and Physical Fitness Exam through Public Safety Testing, you can sign up here. Additionally, you’ll need to create an account on the State of Washington’s job site.
Phase 2 – Polygraph and Background Check
Phase 3 – Oral Board
Phase 4 – Psychological and Medical Exam

Step 3 – Attend the WSP Training Academy
Once you’ve completed your exam and interview, you’ll be ready to attend the WSP Training Academy.
